Competition in Connections Code of Practice (CiC COP)
The Competition in Connections (CiC) Code of Practice governs the way in which Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) provide input services to facilitate competition in the electricity connections distribution market. It will help customers have more choice over their connection provider.
-
DCode website
Licensed electricity distribution businesses, or Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) in Great Britain, are obliged under Condition 21 of their licences to maintain a Distribution Code detailing the technical parameters and considerations relating to connection to, and use of, their electrical networks.

Embedded capacity registers
The development of Embedded Capacity Registers (ECR) by network companies provide better, standardised information to customers and stakeholders on connected resources and services. The links below will take you to the ECRs that have been developed by each network operator.
- Electricity North West
- Northern Powergrid
- SP Energy Networks
- Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks
- UK Power Networks
- Western Power Distribution
- National Grid ESO
The Embedded Capacity Registers were initially developed and known System Wide Resource Registers (SWRR).

Engineering document catalogue
The Document Catalogue System is an online catalogue of engineering documents available from ENA. Documents available from the site include technical specifications, engineering recommendations and reports, BEBS specifications and reports supporting the electricity network process and policies.

Heat pump database
Find this information on our Connecting electric vehicles and heat pumps to the networks page.
-
National Equipment Defect Reporting Scheme (NEDeRS)
NEDeRS is an industry database used to record and communicate defects on electricity plant and equipment to support the safe operation of the networks.
-
National Gas Incident Site (NGIS)
NGIS is an industry database used to record incidents on the gas network to support the safe operation of the networks.
-
Security Incident Reporting System (SIRS)
The Security Task Group (STG) is concerned with all aspects of security on the electricity network. Theft, in particular, has become an increasing problem in recent years largely due to the steep rise in the cost of commodities such as copper and steel. The reporting system can be accessed by users assigned by STG.
